My mom went to the ER on the day she buried her husband of 65 years. She was traumatized, hadn’t eaten anything substantial in a couple of days and was exhibiting signs of a stroke which she had had 20 years ago and left with aphasia as a result. She was admitted to the ER for a cat scan and fluids. She wasn’t having difficulty breathing or exhibiting any signs of Covid. We were told around midnight we could go home because they were going to keep her and as soon as a bed was available they would put her in the room. We left planning to come back the next morning. They called my sister who is the second medical POA in the middle of the night to say she tested positive for Covid and would be on the Covid floor and wasn’t allowed visitors. They administered her first dose of remdesivir by 6 am.

Activism & Follow-up

Is the Victim or the Family Engaging in Activism?: Yes
Types of Activism: This hospital trampled my mom’s patient rights. She was in no state of mind to make any decisions on her own. They had on file the medical POA documents and never once were we contacted and asked about remdesivir. We were aware of this drug and would have refused it had we been given the opportunity. My mom went to the er for fluids and a CAT scan not requiring any oxygen at all. By the time we checked her out against medical advice on Dec 15th less than 48 hours later she was on 5 liters of oxygen. We felt we had no choice but to remove her from the hospital because they refused our wishes and continued to treat her with more remdesivir and they wouldn’t let us be there with her, all the while refusing our requests to administer ivermectin and even documented so in her medical records.

Wendy T’s Story
Written by Wendy Norris Taylor(Daughter )

My mom was admitted to the ER with stroke like symptoms and dehydration on the day she buried her husband of 65 years. My sisters and I were concerned she may have had a stroke given the signs she was exhibiting. She had a stroke 20 years ago and as a result suffered from aphasia. We wanted to rule out anything neurological since she was having trouble even getting a spoon to her mouth.

On Saturday 12/13/21 we took her to the ER at Sampson Regional Medical Center in Clinton, NC. We stayed for 3 hours, finally they told us that the CAT scan was clear and there were no signs of a stroke. Relieved at this news they said they would like to keep her overnight and just give her some fluids. Never once did anyone in the ER mention Covid. She wasn’t on oxygen. Her O2 Sats were around 95. We left around midnight to come home because they said as soon as the room was ready they would admit her.

In the middle of the night at some point they called my sister who is also her medical POA and told her Mom tested positive for Covid and would have to be put on the Covid wing and wouldn’t be allowed any visitors. Knowing my moms breathing and oxygen saturation levels were fine it never crossed my sister’s mind to say “do not administer remdesivir” and she would have if she had thought they were going to give it to her because we knew the drugs track record. Within a few hours of a false positive Covid test my mom was administered remdesivir when she had no problems breathing. It was all down hill from there.

We could tak to her on the phone and she kept saying I just want to come home. We got two calls from two different doctors. The first call on Sunday morning the doctor was concerned about her kidney function. There was no mention of difficulty breathing. The next call we received from a doctor was on Monday. Suddenly my mom is on 5 liters of oxygen. He tells me that her kidney function still isn’t where it should be and she’s requiring more oxygen. I didn’t know that she had been given remdesivir and was actually concerned at this point that maybe it wasn’t a false positive test because she had declined so rapidly.

So I asked for her to be treated with ivermectin. He proceeded to tell me that wasn’t an option and that he had tried to administer it to patients before and had taken it all the way to the top of the chain of command to no avail.  It was during this conversation that he revealed she had been given remdesivir and I said do NOT give her anymore of that and I want her to have ivermectin. He explained he couldn’t and his hands were tied and had the patient care specialist call me. That conversation didn’t go well at all and we went to pick my mother up Monday afternoon AMA. We have all her medical records right down to the paragraph about me where I adamantly requested ivermectin and they explained it wasn’t CDC approved.

We got set up with hospice so we were able to get her oxygen at home ironically the hospice doctor Dr Larry Watts who oversaw her care had been threatened into submission by Dr Ken Yang into no longer prescribing his elderly patients ivermectin. So he wouldn’t prescribe it even through hospice but they had no problem giving us morphine for her. On Dec 22, 2021 she passed away. She was an otherwise healthy active 83 year old before remdesivir. 9 days after getting two doses she was dead. We brought her home because she wanted to be home and we refused to allow them to isolate her after just having buried my Dad and potentially end up on a ventilator. She died in her bed at home surrounded by family.
